African Americans and the Christian Churches: 1619-1860 (Neale Jones)
Essential History
Based on a lifetime of study and research, Lawrence Jones writes a comprehensive and compelling discourse on the emergence of African American Christianity in America from 1619-1860.
African Americans and the Christian Churches explores the strategies white church people devised to accommodate Jesus’ mandate to teach the gospel to the entire world, while preserving structures that continued dominance and power. Jones examines the responses African religious institutions made to the gospel in a society not of their own making.
